Historical background to the document "President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev met President of the United States of America George Bush (Washington, 9 April, 2001)"


On April 3, 2001, a meeting of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia under the auspices of OSCE and with the participation of the U.S. Secretary of State C.Powell was held in Key West, Florida, for finding the ways of solution of the conflict between the two nations. In his statement Heydar Aliyev addressed the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, the United States, France and called them to intensify their efforts for removing the armed conflict, establishing a lasting peace.

On April 9, in the White House, Heydar Aliyev conducted special discussions with U.S. President George W. Bush on the solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed in the meeting.
