The Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Rights of Children which includes the main provisions of the United Nations Convention on Children`s Rights was adopted in 1998. Since then, spective legislation and legal acts have regularly been improved, numerous state programs on the protection of the rights of the children of martyrs and the orphans, on the growth of their world outlook and for bringing them up in the healthy spirit have been adopted. Several civil society institutions and international organizations provide alternative care for homeless children. In this regard, the activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation chaired Mehriban Aliyeva, First Lady of Azerbaijan, are particularly distinguished.
