Historical background to the document "Speech of President of the Azerbaijan Republic, Heydar Aliev at the OIC Summit in Casablanca (13 December, 1994)"

Cooperation of Azerbaijan with the Organization of Islamic Conference started in December 1991. Since the Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was empowered by Heydar Aliyev with the authority of permanent representative to the OIC General Secretariat in May 1994, more effective cooperation was launched with Jeddah-based OIC General Secretariat and its various agencies, including the Islamic Development Bank through our embassy to Ar-Riyadh. The 7th summit of the OIC was held in Casablanca, Morocco on 13-15 December 1994. Azerbaijan represented by a delegation led by Heydar Aliyev took part in an OIC summit for the first time. It was Heydar Aliyev, who delivered a congratulatory speech on behalf of the Asian countries in the final session of the summit. Paragraphs condemning the aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan (Paragraphs 68-71 of the Final Communiqué) were included in the final document of the 7th Summit of the OIC. The paragraphs called on the UN Security Council to admit the aggression against Azerbaijan and take actions in accordance with its charter.
