Organization of Islamic Conference


International organization founded in 1969 in Rabat, Morocco, by the leaders of the Muslim countries. According to the Charter adopted in 1972, the supreme body of the organization is the conference of the heads of the states and governments held once in three years. The headquarters of the organization is "temporarily" located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (until the liberation of Jerusalem). Since 1975 the organization has a status of an observer in the UN. Decision on it was adopted by the 27th session of the UN General Assembly. The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Conferenceincludes the sections below: social-economical, science and technology, Asian problems, African problems, international problems, information, human rights and religious minorities, problems of Muslim non-governmental organizations, etc. Azerbaijan is a member of this organization since December 1991
