Historical background to the document "Speech of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev at the ceremony of presentation of International Ataturk Peace Prize (November 1, 1999)"

The Ataturk International Peace Prize is a national prize of Turkey presented since 1986 to people, who have contributed to the establishment of peace in the world.

For his purposeful activities aimed at the establishment ofpeace in the Caucasus and in the region, Heydar Aliyev was awarded with the Ataturk International Peace Prize. The awarding ceremony took place in Ankara on November 1, 1999. The Turkish President Suleyman Demirel presented Heydar Aliyev the prize, its badge and diploma and delivered a congratulatory speech.
